THIRTY-FOUR teams will be vying in the 2nd Governor’s Cup 40-Above Basketball Tournament in the 6th District.

The hoops competition, which was made possible by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC) through the efforts of 6th District Board Member Glenn Ouano Bercede, opened last Sunday at the Mandaue City Cultural and Sports Center (MCCSC).

According to Bercede, the purpose of the competition is to promote health and wellness to the district’s older citizens.

“I have been conducting 40-above basketball tournaments since I was still a Barangay Captain in Banilad,” Bercede shared.

The 6th District includes the municipalities of Consolacion and Cordova, and the city of Mandaue.

Teams from Mandaue City are Guizo, Ibabao-Estancia, Opao, Banilad, Tipolo, Looc, Pagsabungan, Paknaan, Cambaro, Alang-Alang, Umapad, Jagubiao, Tabok, Cabancalan, Bakilid, Cubacub, Maguikay, Casuntingan and Subangdaku.

Casili, Jugan, Nangka, Lamac, Pulpogan, Tayud, Cansaga, Panoypoy, Garing and Tilha-ong comprise the teams from Consolacion.
Cordova, meanwhile, consists of Buagsong, Dapitan, Poblacion and Ibabao.

The top team from each municipality will receive P20,000 cash. The top two teams of each municipality will advance to the grand finals, where the emerging champion will get another P20,000 cash prize.
