Christmas in the air

I WAS away for three weeks, in Spain, with my son Jimmy.

We spent all the time in Zaragoza to attend the festivities of Our Lady of Pilar, and to touch base with relatives and friends.

Here I am back at my ramshackle typewriter with a pile of notes on what’s up for the coming days.

We gave a taste of the forthcoming Nutcracker ballet presentation by Balletcenter on Nov. 3 and 4 at the SM Seaside City on our last edition, with photos, some of which we have kept for today.

On Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m.the Waterfront Airport Hotel is having The Christmas Dream–A Filipino White Christmas. Strictly formal, say the invitations.

On Nov. 6 at 6pm the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel celebrates Indian cuisine at the Cafe Marco.

This culinary journey is under the guidance of Judeline Murjani.

On Nov. 9 at 6pm Radisson Blu Cebu Hotel brings about Christmas Classics at the lobby.

It marks the hotel’s anniversary and the Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

Attire requested is fashionably formal which means suits for the men, and cocktail dresses for the ladies.

Strictly no denim nor sportswear.

On Nov. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. is the opening of Vero & Jun Escario at the ground level of Ayala Center, adjacent to cap, says Betty Young in behalf of daughter Gladys Young Palanca.

Gladys presents her 2018 holiday jewelry collection and Jun Escario exposes his latest bridal collection.

“It’s the most dazzling time of the year,” proclaim invitations to the Christmas tree lighting event at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa on November 26 at 6pm.

Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion (CIC) will have its annual homecoming on Sunday Dec. 2. Registration begins at 1 p.m., with Mass at 3 p.m. at the school auditorium.

The traditional “Chocolate con Churros” hosted by the “madres,” in this case the Daughters of Charity, follows.

The program at the auditorium is set for 4:30 p.m.

This year’s theme is All that Glitters!!! Sparkle… Shimmer…Shine!!!

Presentations will come from the jubilarians—pearl, ruby, coral, sapphire, emerald, gold and the hosting Silver class of 1993.

This year CIC is honoring Atty. Anika Apalisok Fernandez as the Outstanding Alumna for 2018.

Anika currently works as an Attache and Administrative Officer in the permanent mission of the Philippines to the United Nations based in New York.

She is also a recipient of the Gawad Mabini award with the rank of Kausgo.

This award is given to those who interest of the Philippines at home an abroad, conferred on Anika by President Benigno Aquino III.

This column was written last Saturday when we took stock of forthcoming events. On Monday morning came an invitation from the Shangri-la’s Mactan Resort and Spa.

They are celebrating their silver anniversary on Thursday, Nov. 8—25 grand years.

It all starts with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. at the Ocean Pavilion, followed by dinner at the Marquee. Formal attire is requested.

And speaking of the Shangri-La, La Chaine des Rotisseurs Cebu chapter will hold its anniversary gala there on the evening of December 6. Baili Delegue Michel Lhuillier says it is going to be fantastic.
