More than 700 people have benefited from the largest medical mission conducted by OrmocDoc last October 28 at Ormoc Doctors’ Hospital Atrium in celebration of its sixth founding anniversary.

A total of 189 patients were given free dental checkup, cleaning, and extraction, while 200 were given reading glasses by Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) volunteers.

Another 199 patients were checked by CebuDoc’s ophthalmology resident doctors, and 186 patients availed of laboratory services like capillary blood sugar, blood typing, and blood pressure. Free medicines were also given to the beneficiaries.

“We are grateful that OrmocDoc provides opportunities like these for the less fortunate who cannot afford dental services,” one of the beneficiaries explained in Cebuano.

The beneficiaries came from the different barangays in Ormoc City.

“This is the second time that OrmocDoc conducted this kind of activity. Last 2016, we also did a medical mission where more than 200 patients were served,” said Hilario Jake Cortes, OrmocDoc Hospital Administrator.

Cortes added that this year’s medical mission was more meaningful and bigger as the hospital was celebrating their sixth anniversary and commemorating the legacy of CebuDoc Group’s founder, Dr. Potenciano Larrazabal Jr.

CebuDoc Group’s chairman, Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III, in his anniversary message, said the medical facility is positioned to be the finest hospital in Ormoc and Leyte as the hospital continues to upgrade its facilities and offer highly specialized services in the coming years.

OrmocDoc also gave loyalty awards to employees who have reached five years of service.

“The daily adversities that beset OrmocDoc are more than a few but certainly not insurmountable. But as we continue to go beyond each challenge in the best way we can, let us not lose sight of the ideals upon which the institution was founded; to refuse care to no one and to never compromise quality care”, said Dr. Gardenia Larrazabal, OrmocDoc Medical Director.

“There are always good Samaritans who are ready to answer the call to serve and to show compassion and the will to help others. This call was heroically answered today by our volunteers from CDU and CDUH (Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital). To the very active employees of Ormoc Doctors Hospital, our heartfelt thanks for the excellent job you are doing every day,” Cortes said.

“I see this as an opportunity to give back to the community where I live and help people who cannot afford the cost of services we have tendered,” Ma. Teresa Beslig, OrmoDoc Information and Medical Records Department head, said.

“For me personally, I feel good every time I am able to help other people and it gives me self-satisfaction that somehow I am able to make a difference. Volunteering also brings me closer to the community; it’s also fun meeting different people and that I’m able to share my time and it just feels so fulfilling,” said Ma. Chola Lourdes Mendoza, a volunteer of the mission.
