HOST team, Cebu Dragons, will mount a serious campaign for the coveted Dragon Cup as the 11th Cebu 10s International Rugby Festival unfurl today at the Cebu International School in the northern barangay of Pit-os, Cebu City.

The Cebu Dragons have enough motivation this year to gun for the title, said team member Christian Buscas.

“One of the things that really motivated us is that for the first time we have gotten many sponsors such as the Marco Polo Hotel, unlike before that we don’t really have any sponsors,” added Buscas.

According to Buscas, the present members of Cebu Dragons are also stronger and have the speed.

Although the team still needs to work on its chemistry because only four locals have remained on the team, while the rest are from Papua New Guinea who are here in Cebu to study.

The Cebu Dragons, however, will have an uphill climb as for the first time, China will be fielding a team — the Changzou Giants whose presence will make the tournament more exciting.

The Rhinos FC of Hong Kong are also back and keen on retaining their title, being the first team from outside the Philippines to have won the Dragon Cup last year.

To also make things complicated is the four-time champions Alabang Eagles who are bent on wrest back the Dragon Cup.

Other teams seeing action are Albay Bulkans, Clark jets, Insead Singapore of Singapore, Lapu-Lapu Jets, Manila Hapons, Manila Nomads, Mavericks and Palawan Rugby.
