CEBUANA singer Golden Cañedo, the first grand winner of GMA’s singing competition, “The Clash” received cheers and warm welcome during her homecoming in Cebu last Saturday.
Dubbed the “Golden Voice of Cebu,” the 16-year-old star shared to Cebu’s Entertainment Group how the contest and her victory changed her life.

“Studio 7” is GMA’s newest musical variety show which airs every Sunday. It features Julie Anne San Jose and Christian Bautista, among other GMA stars, as well as Cañedo’s fellow Clashers Jong Madaliday, Josh Adornado, Anthony Rosaldo, Garret Bolden, and Danielle Ozaraga.
The young singer, who recently inked a contract with GMA Artist Center and GMA Records, also confirmed that she is working with veteran composer Vehnee Saturno for her album which will be released next year.
Part of the album will be her version of the classic, “Ngayon” composed by revered songwriter George Canseco. This will be released on November 23. “Ngayon” was Cañedo’s winning song during grand finals of “The Clash.”
Originally from the town of Minglanilla, she and and her family transferred to Manila, the charming performer also revealed that more people now recognize and idolize her.
“Daghan nang ga chat nako. Dili nako normal person. Basta mo gawas sa balay kay dapat naa ko’y make-up,” she said sheepishly.
Before “The Clash,” her life revolved around school, home, and joining barangay singing contests.
“Karon kay balay to GMA and taping. Lingaw man sad kay akong mga nakit-an sa una sa TV kay nakauban nako, like Kyline Alcantara, Mavy (Legaspi), and Cassy (Legaspi),” she said.
Last Saturday, Cañedo visited her hometown, Minglanilla.
She went to Minglanilla Municipal Hall, Tungkop Elementary School, and University of Visayas (UV) Minglanilla Campus.
“Nakit-an nako akong kaliwat didto nag hilak-hilak, nihilak sad ko. (Nakita nako) mga classmates nako sa skwelahan. Daghang teachers nako nag bilin nako’g mga messages ug nag picture mi,” she said.
She also met her fans at Robinsons Galleria Cebu for Kapuso Fans Day, together with Bolden and Rosaldo.
Cañedo said that aside from her relatives, she misses the food in Cebu, especially her favorites, chicharon and otap. She also misses strolling at the baywalk in the city of Naga.
After winning P1 million, a car, and house and lot, Cañedo said she hopes to continue working as she is now her family’s breadwinner.
She also wants to help her cousin who has a medical condition.
“Sana mag dugay ko diri, mas naa pay makaila nako, ug mas naa pay nindot mo abot sa akong kinabuhi,” she said.
She is also looking forward to having more acting projects.
Last month, Cañedo headlined an episode of the real-life drama anthology, “Magpakailanman” which featured her life story. Portraying her parents were Angelu De Leon and Bobby Andrews.
She said that after her acting debut in “Magpakailanman,” she finds acting as an interesting path to pursue.
Cañedo said she wants to work with are young stars, Kyline Alcantara and Miguel Tanfelix.
