THE NATIONAL Weightlifting Open organized by the Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP) will be held in Cebu on December 9 to 14 at the SM Seaside Cebu City Wing Atrium.

Some of the Philippine National Weightlifters will be gracing the event together with Nestor Colonia and Olympic silver medalist and Asian Games gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz.

“This event will serve as tryout for the forthcoming Southeast Aaian Games 2019, World Championships and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” said SWP president Monico O. Puentevella in a press meeting yesterday at the SM Seaside City Cebu.

The opening ceremony will be attended by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William Ramirez and PSC Commissioner Ramon Fernandez.

The competition, also known as the National 6 in 1, will be composed of six categories namely: youth, junior, senior, secondary, tertiary and masters.

Weightlifters, champions and coaches will also do exhibition games to promote the sport as one of the medal-hauling sport in the Philippines.

According to National Team Coach and competition organizer Leonard Llena, 180 athletes have already enlisted to participate in the event.
