Enriquez is Cepca grand champ anew

VETERAN wood pusher Rogelio Enriquez Jr. was crowned champion of the Cebu Executives and Professionals (Cepca) Grand Finals after topping the competition last Sunday at the residence of Cepca president, Engr. Jerry Maratas at the Cebu Royale Estates in Consolacion town, north Cebu.

The 46-year-old Enriquez, head coach of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) chess team, finished with 10.0 points to emerge champion.

The Education graduate turned professional wood pushers outperformed 11 others monthly qualifiers to reclaim the title he won last 2017.

Dominador Salazar settled for second place with 9.0 points followed by Neal Amores, who accumulated 8.0 points.

Enriquez Jr. walked away with P5,000 purse Salazar got P3,000 while Amores got P2,000.

“It is a very productive year for us in Cepca because we did a lot of good things like organizing the national tournament to commemorate our one of the founding members Boy Pestaño Memorial Chess Tournament, we also had a series of charitable programs in the province by donating chess sets. It was a very productive year and we are looking forward to organizing more tournaments and charitable activities in 2019,” said Maratas.

In the non-qualifiers’ division, Senior Police Officer 4 (SPO4) Ruel Hortelano of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) emerged as champion after five rounds with a perfect 5.0 points.
