Defending champion Batch ‘95 rebounds

Cebu Daily News February 18,2014 - 10:02 PM

DEFENDING champion Batch ’95/Gaisano Capital Group and Batch ’80s/90s-A/Argentina Corned Beef bounced back from opening day losses with separate wins last Saturday in the 2014 Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) 13th Dr. Chen Lieh Fu Memorial Cup at the CEC Gym.
Joseph James Yu put up a stellar offensive game to power Batch ’95 to an 88-74 dumping of Batch 2004/Dunkin Donuts, while Batch ’80s/90s-A relied on the ageless Zotico Tan to trample Batch ’80s/90s-B/Fil-Ann Enterprises, 64-43.
Yu exploded for 32 points and got enough support from Archie Gue and Romy Chica, who piled up 13 and 12 markers, respectively.
Joseph Aljhune Areja likewise had a stellar game, scoring what by far is the season’s highest individual output with 39 markers. Rodney Co added 17 points for Batch ’04, which dropped to 0-2 (win-loss).
The 68-year-old Tan, on the other hand, toyed with younger opponents, leading Batch ’80s/90s-A with 14 markers. Stephen Tan also finished with 14 markers for Batch ’80s/90s-B, which lost to Batch ’98 in the opening day, 48-52.
Peter Dela Torre and Edison Ong led Batch ’80s/90s-B with 11 points each, while Go had 10.
