MARY JOY Tabal and Kenyan Isaac Simat emerged the fastest runners in the Rose Pharmacy Run yesterday at the Ayala Center Cebu.
Tabal, who placed second to Kenyan Immaculate Chemutai in the SM2SM Run earlier this month, got back on top by finishing first in the women’s 10-kilometer race with a time of 38 minutes and 37 seconds. Simat, on the other hand, breasted the finish line in 32 minutes and 18 seconds to win the men’s crown.
Dumaguete City’s Mereeis Ramirez clocked 44 minutes to finish second to Tabal while Sandra Sollano rounded off the top three with a time of 45 minutes and 54 seconds.
Kenyan Douglas Mwiti (32:24) and Abraham Misos (33:21) were second and third placers, respectively, in the men’s race.
Tabal and Simat were awarded the top purse of P3,500 each.
Winners in the short-distance races were Prince Joey Lee (5k men), Cristy Tutor (5k women), John Cliff Debolusan (3k men) and Lovely Andrin (3k women).
Around 1,400 runners joined the race that aimed to raise funds for the Rose Pharmacy Foundation. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
