‘Limiting Lanete is key to victory for Big Chill’

Cebu Daily News February 22,2014 - 10:18 PM

THE BIG CHILL Superchargers will try to topple the powerhouse NLEX Road Warriors as Game 1 of the best-of-three finals of the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup commences Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Expected to be at the helm of the Superchargers’ charge is stocky but lightning-quick guard Brian Heruela. The former University of Cebu stalwart shared his thoughts on their team’s strategy to foil the Road Warriors, champions of four of this league’s last five conferences.
“Our strategy is hard physical defense especially because it’s the finals. And hopefully, we can limit the scoring of Garvo Lanete,” said Heruela in an interview yesterday.
Lanete is the leading candidate to capture the Best Player of the Tournament award and leads the Road Warriors in scoring.
Heruela is no slouch as he has raised his game to another level and leads the league in both assists (8.2) and steals (2.4).
“I try to be the leader on the floor and hit my open teammates and just try to play hard and give it my all,” he added.
But in spite of the championship experience that he culled during his two trips to the Cesafi finals, Heruela admitted that this finals series will be a different animal altogether.
“It’s different because it’s another level from college and especially we’re playing on a bigger stage and all eyes will be on us. So hopefully, we can just play our game and enjoy and relax.” /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
