BECAUSE of the clamor of the runners coming from far places, the deadline for registration of the 1st Cebu City SRP Midnight Marathon was moved to Feb. 28.
Event coordinator Allan Delantar said during Tuesday’s press conference at the Port Restaurant at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino. More than 1,000 runners have registered for the event slated this March 2 at the SRP-Sugbo Grounds.
“It’s all systems go. But we extended the deadline of the registration to Feb. 28 to accommodate the requests of the runners from other areas,” Delantar said.
Race director Joel Juarez, for his part, said that there are already foreigners—majority of them Kenyans—who have already registered for the marathon. The foreigners, according to Juarez, will have their own category in the race.
The event, which is the first full marathon happening in Cebu City, will dangle P200,000 as cash prizes for the different categories. The categories to be competed in are the 42K, 21K and 5K.
Registration fee is pegged at P1,200 for the 42K, P700 for the 21K and P350 for the 5K.
The race, which is being held as part of the Cebu City Charter Day celebration, is supported by Shell, Port restaurant, Barako Bull, Thirsty, Philippine Spring Water, Dragon Fireworks, Seed Marketing, G-Concept, Parklane and URC. /Correspondent JADE S. VIOLETA
