Liquid-Tile escapes Mondo Skimcoat to advance to Davies Paints Cup Finals

Cebu City, Philippines – Liquid-Tile spoiled what would have been a championship showdown between the two best teams of the tournament as they edged Mondo Skimcoat in overtime, 86-85, in the semifinals of the Architects + Engineers Basketball Club 2019 Davies Paints Cup last Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the University of San Carlos gym.
Prolific wingman Michael Cinco capped off his stellar night by hitting two pressure-packed free-throws to shove Liquid-Tile ahead, 86-85, with 0.7 of a second left.
Mondo’s Bong Gabison was able to heave up a shot that fell short as time expired, giving Liquid-Tile a ticket to the finals this Saturday at the same venue.
Cinco finished the game with 39 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.
Veteran slotman Elmer Laguna also came up big as he scored 21 points, including the undergoal shot that sent the game to overtime.
Standing opposite Liquid-Tile in the finals will be the unbeaten Powerfloor, which routed Bio-Fresh, 83-69, in the other semis battle.
Paul Besinga paced the winning side with 21 points while Ayi Armenion and Lawrence Gayotin each had 14 markers. /bmjo
