19-year-old UST student who fought against cancer ‘to the max’ passes away

Maxine Blanco, the 19-year-old girl who was featured in a bittersweet viral Facebook post over the weekend, and who inspired netizens for her courageous fight against cancer, finally succumbed to the disease on Saturday.

Blanco’s boyfriend, fellow University of Santo Tomas student Gab Sta. Ana, announced the passing of his sweetheart in a Facebook post.

“Max fought hard and I’m thankful for everything. No more pain, no more suffering. She [left us], but her spirit will always be here. I love you Maxine,” he wrote.

Sta. Ana had netizens inspired after he spoke about his six-year relationship with Blanco.

Their story instantly became a hit on social media, garnering more than 80,000 reactions and over 100 shares, as of writing.

“3 pm…the hour of the divine mercy. Maxine earned her angel wings and slowly going up in heaven. For sure all the other angels are thrilled in welcoming her,” stated the page Live Life to the MAX. “No more pain Baby Girl. We love you very much Maxine.”

Blanco would have turned 20 years old next week. JB
