Corporate Cup hoops: Island Paints pulls off upset against Dormakaba

Cebu City, Philippines — Island Paints started its campaign in the Architects + Engineers Basketball Club 2019 Corporate Cup with a bang, as it took down the defending champions Dormakaba, 51-41, at the start of the tournament last Saturday, March 30, 2019, at the University of San Carlos gym.
Ralph Catugas paced the winners with 13 points while Chester Hinagdanan added 12 to help author the enormous upset.
In other matches, Toyota Mabolo routed Buildrite, 69-47, while Phoenix Building Systems bested Thinking Tools Inc., 68-59.
Lawrence Gayotin led Phoenix with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Malvin Malicdem put up 12 markers for the winning side.
Meanwhile, Davies Paints got 31 points from Mike Cinco and 20 more from Ferdinand Tiro to push them past AVC Development and Construction Corp., 80-68.
In the Best in Muse competition that preceded the competition, Jessa Ledesma of Toyota Mabolo was deemed the winner while Nova Auxtero and Jill Luzuriaga of Davies Paints and Island Paints, respectively, finished as runners-up. /bmjo
