Cebu City, Philippines — The reigning champions Talisay City Aquastars and Tuburan came away with titles in their respective districts after beating their opponents in the district finals of the Governor’s Cup 2019 Inter Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.

Talisay City clobbered the Minglanilla Archangels, 97-89, on its own home floor, to emerge with the 1st District championship and the P100,000 cash prize that came with it.

The win was not an easy one for the defending titlist as they trailed, 26-33, after the first period. However, they quickly turned things around in the second as Clark Ruedas sparked the comeback with seven points in that stretch to help push the Aquastars in front, 46-44.

The two teams battled back-and-forth until Talisay City grabbed the game by the throat, thanks to the clutch shooting of Raffy Bacasmas who scored nine of his 11 points in the final canto to put away the pesky Archangels.

Jay Deiparine led Talisay City with 29 points before fouling out with 1:46 remaining in the match. Ruedas finished with 16 markers with Jhaylord Castro put up 13 of his own.

Acer Go led the way for Minglanilla with 28 points while Ryzel Gilbuena backed him up with 22.

Tuburan, on the other hand, turned away Balamban, to win the 3rd District title in a game that was played at the Tuburan Sports Complex. Tuburan took home P100,000 as well.

In the 5th District crossover games, Danao City and Sogod forged a showdown for the district championship after they put up wins over their respective opponents in games that were staged at the Sogod Municipal Gym.

Danao City blew past Carmen, 96-81, while Sogod defeated last season’s runners-up, San Francisco, 81-70. /bmjo
