Rainy days ahead for Cebu

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu will have a temporary respite from the humid and hot weather.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Sciences Association in Central Visayas (Pagasa-7) said Cebuanos can expect cloudy sky and intermittent rainshowers in Cebu today, April 6, 2019, and the coming days as the easterly winds dominates the weather system of the Visayas.

Pagasa-7 weather specialist Jhomer Eclarino said the warm and moist air of the easterlies brings isolated rainshowers all over Visayas and the occasional thunderstorm.

Eclarino said the temperature is expected to drop from its usual 31 to 32 degrees Celsius range to 25 to 30 degrees Celsius with an average heat index of 35 degrees Celsius.

The temperature today, April 6, 2019, will not be as humid and as hot as the past days and weeks.

Although the rain is expected to ease the hot temperature, Eclarino said it has little effect on the water supply of Cebu since the volume of rain recorded only peaked at 3.4 millimeters, which is equal to 17,000 barrels of rain per square kilometer.

“It would be good to store this rainwater,” he said.

On Sunday, April 7, a fair weather is once again expected.

Eclarino said rain is expected from Monday, April 8, to Wednesday, April 10, and will ease the effect of the El Niño weather phenomenon.

He said the rainy weather in the coming days will hopefully replenish the surface water, although the volume is far from the average rainfall for the month of April which is 55.6 millimeters.

Pagasa-7 highly encouraged the public to store water and take advantage of the rain in the coming days. / celr
