CEBU CITY, Philippines– The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Cebu provincial office is encouraging senior high school graduates to take construction courses.

TESDA Cebu provincial director Francisca Opog said there is now a high demand for workers in the construction industry especially with the implementation of the national government’s Build, Build, Build program.

She said that their agency has committed to support the government’s Build, Build, Build program by providing skilled construction workers.

Opog said they organized an Enrollment, Jobs and Build Fair, a three-in-one event held on Friday, to promote the construction courses offered through TESDA-registered technology-vocational institutes (TVIs).

Opog said that TESDA has allocated 30 percent of its total scholarship slots for construction and 25 percent for agriculture for the year 2019.

She said there were 539 enrollees in the 30 participating TVIs. Once approved, the enrollees will be taking up the different construction courses for free, she said.

Aside from the TVIs, several construction companies participated in the fair. However, there were only 89 applicants, some of them have been hired on the spot.

The activity was held in partnership with the Habitat for Humanity International./dcb
