CEBU CITY, Philippines — The municipal government of Oslob in southern Cebu has announced the suspension of their whale shark watching and island hopping activities on Good Friday, April 19, in observance of the religious celebration.

Walay whale shark watching on Good Friday and sa Sumilon, ang mga boat operators dili pod na mo byahe (Whale shark watching activities are suspended on Good Friday while boat operators in Sumilon Island will not also operate for the day),” said Elizabeth Benologa, Oslob municipal tourism officer.

Resorts and other establishments, however, will continue to accept guests, Benologa said.

“The resorts will remain open but the activities in our tourism destinations are suspended in observance of the Lenten season,” she said.

Benologa advised tourists, who wished to spend Black Saturday and Eastern Sunday in resorts located in their town, to book their resort accommodations ahead of schedule.

On Monday, the municipality of Badian also announced the suspension of canyoneering activities at the Kawasan falls on Good Friday. /dcb
