CEBU CITY, Philippines – – April’s full moon, also called the “Pink Moon,” is poised to appear in our night sky at 7:12 p.m. of Good Friday, April 19, 2019.

But do not expect this full moon to be an instagrammable shade of pink, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-asa).

“It is a spring time full moon. We call it pink (moon) but it is a normal April full moon,” explained Romeo Aguirre, weather specialist of Pag-asa Central Visayas (Pag-asa 7).

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, a reference book often checked for astronomical data and weather forecasts, the Full Pink Moon is called as such because of the wild ground phlox or moss pink, which is one of the early flowers of spring.

“In ancient times, it was common to track the seasons by the lunar calendar. Native peoples once observed the seasons by giving distinctive names to each recurring full moon,” the Old Farmer’s Almanac said in its official website, www.almanac.com.

Tonight’s Full Pink Moon is also known in other parts of the world as the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon.

It is also called as the Paschal Full Moon as it occurs the days before Easter Sunday.

Tonight, at 7:12 p.m., continue your observance of Good Friday by finding a cozy spot with your loved ones and look up. / celr
