Holy Week is a significant religious observance for many Filipinos. It also marks a time for family get-togethers and spending time with loved ones in going to church or simply just staying at home.
As the Holy Week is also a time for reflection and slowing down, allow us to recommend some movies to watch on the remaining days of the Lenten season.
The Passion of the Christ
This movie was released back in 2004 under the direction of Mel Gibson. You may have watched this movie once or twice in the past years but the visual presentation of this movie is more than enough to stir up some emotions every single time. This movie showed how Jesus immensely suffered to save humanity.
Heaven is for Real
The movie is based on a real life story. It is a story of a near-death experience of a four-year-old boy, who witnessed Jesus during his surgery in the hospital. “Jesus told me that he died on the cross so we could go see his Dad, ” the little boy told his father. The story evolves on how the father found courage to share his son’s extraordinary life-changing story to the world.
The Prince of Egypt
This animated biblical film was produced by DreamWorks Picture in 1998. It is the adaptation of the life of Moses from the Book of Exodus. It features the story of how Moses was raised as the Prince of Egypt and destined to become the chosen deliverer of the Israelites when he learned his true identity as a Hebrew.
Son of God
The movie is a 2014 American epic biblical drama film directed by Christopher Spencer. The film retells the story of Jesus from the time He was born, to the time he started preaching until he was betrayed by one of His disciples, crucified and finally resurrected from the dead.
The Pursuit of Happyness
The movie is based on the life story of Chris Gardner, an entrepreneur, motivational speaker, author, and philanthropist, who struggled for nearly a year of being homeless. Together with his five-year-old son, they found themselves with no place to go. It showed how Chris endured the difficulties in life and the struggles he made to give his son a better life. Though the movie did not focus on Jesus’ life, it teaches us to remain patient and faithful to God despite hardships, one of the lessons that is being emphasized this Lenten season.
