League-leading Carmen halts San Francisco’s run in Red Durano Cup

Cebu City, Philippines—Carmen put a stop to the winning run of San Francisco as they won, 77-73, in the 9th Congressman Red Durano Cup basketball tournament on Monday, April 29, 2019, at the latter’s home floor in San Francisco.

Carmen got off to a fast start and led, 43-29, at halftime before surviving San Francisco’s comeback attempt in the second half.

The win gave the winning side a league-best record of 9-1 (win-loss) while San Francisco dropped to 6-2.

Kenneth Watin and Raejay Buenconsejo scored 12 points each to lead Carmen.

In the other game, Liloan escaped with a 53-52 win over Tudela, to end their elimination round campaign with a 7-3 card.

Earl Tuatho paced Liloan with 16 points while Aaron Banzalina helped out with 12 markers.

Tudela’s loss pulled them further down the standings at 2-6. /bmjo
