CEBU CITY, Philippines — An 80-year-old Greek national and a 60-year-old woman from Dumaguete City are facing a human trafficking and child abuse complaint at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.

Stefanos Karakatsanis, who is also a Greek widower, and his alleged cohort, Nenita Silot, from Dumaguete City were arrested inside the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) last April 30, said Jonathan Tumulak, CSBT manager, in a press briefing on Friday.

Tumulak said that Karakatsanis was fetching a 15-year-old girl from Dumaguete City, who was accompanied by Silot.

Police officers and the team from Inter Agency Counsel Against Trafficking moved in when they saw Karakatsanis hand over P3,000 to Silot after he touched the hips, the hands and face of the 15-year-old girl.

When apprehended, Karakatsanis and Silot could not prove that they were related to the 15-year-old girl, which is a violation of the Child Abuse Law.

On Friday, May 3, a complaint against Katsakanis and Silot, accusing them of child abuse and human trafficking was filed at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.

Karakatsanis and Silot were detained at the Carbon Police Precinct pending the filing of charges while the 15-year-old girl was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.\dbs
