CEBU CITY, Philippines – A member of the Philippine National Police Maritime Group was killed outside of his residence at the Pueble De Oro Subdivision in Barangay Babag, Lapu-Lapu City, Friday night.

Police Master Sergeant Joseph Villamor, 44, died from a bullet wound on his head and other parts of his body.

Witnesses said that the gunman disembarked from a motorcycle and fired a shot hitting Villamor on his head.  The suspect also fired several other shots hitting the maritime policeman’s body before he fled onboard a waiting motorcycle.

Police Major Wayne Magbanua, chief of Police Station 3 of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said that Villamor was taking a phone call outside of his residence past 7 p.m. when two men onboard a motorcycle arrived.

Magbanua said they are yet to identify Villamor’s killers and the motive behind his murder.

Villamor used to be assigned as driver for retired Police General Marcelo Garbo, whom President Rodrigo Duterte named as among the narco generals, before he was transferred to the Lapu-Lapu City Intelligence Branch. He was reassigned to the PNP Martime Group in 2015. /dcb
