CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña appeared unperturbed by the news of an illegal gambling complaint filed by a certain Conrado Romano before the Office of the Ombudsman for the Visayas.

News of the complaint circulated on Sunday, May 5, 2019 or five days after Romano sent a letter dated April 30, 2019 to the Ombudsman alleging that Osmeña is involved in an illegal gambling activity.

In an interview with reporters on Sunday, May 5 around 7:30 p.m. shortly after the grand rally of the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) at the Cebu City Sports Center, the incumbent Cebu City Mayor neither confirmed nor denied that it was him in the photo.

Osmeña only said that he is used to hearing negative stories about himself, but he was never convicted for the accusations of violations that his enemies threw at him.

“They always come up with things. I’m going to die. I’m like this and that. I’ve never been convicted by the Ombudsman,” he said.

During the interview, Osmeña emphasized that Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, who is running against him in the mayoralty race, was the one who was previously suspended by the Ombudsman.

“Remember, Labella was convicted by the Ombudsman, the first vice mayor to be suspended in the history of Cebu,” said Osmeña.

In answer to the illegal gambling complaint, Osmeña said he will let his lawyers handle this issue.
