PUJ drivers told to post copy of new matrix prior to collection of P8 minimum fare
CEBU CITY, Philippines-Drivers of Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) will only be allowed to collect the P8 provisional minimum fare approved by the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) after they post a copy of the new fare matrix inside their unit.
LTFRB-7 Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. said that fines await those who will violate said regulation.
“Five thousand ang multa ana. They can be charged for asking fare increase without (the) fare matrix,” he added.
Montealto said that starting on Tuesday, they will already start to issue the new fare matrix to PUJ operators for a fee of P50 per copy of the said document.

The LTFRB board passed resolution no. 072 series of 2019 on April 24 to authorize a provisional increase in the minimum fare of PUJs in Central Visayas from P6.50 to P8 for the first five kilometers of travel. It was signed by chairman Martin Delgra and Board Member Ronaldo Corpus.
However, the resolution said that the rate for the succeeding kilometers will remain the same.
Montealto said that the provisional increase will also cover the modernized air-conditioned jeepneys like the BEEPs.
“Ang mga airconditioned nga jeepneys, 20 percet ang ilang increase. So from P8 to P9.60,” Montealto said.
The National Confederation of Transportworkers Union (NCTU) and the Basak-LapuLapu City Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association (BALACJODA) welcomed the approval of the LTFRB resolution./dcb
