CEBU CITY, Philippines — Police will be holding more checkpoints in San Fernando town in southern Cebu, which is also part of the security measures for the upcoming election, and the shooting attack of the town’s ambulance in Barangay Inoburan in Naga City.

Police Colonel Manuel Abrugena, Cebu Provincial Police Office director, said in a press briefing on Wednesday, May 8, that they would intensify conducting checkpoints in the entry and exit points of the town.

Abrugena also said that although they did not have any solid lead yet in the attack of the San Fernando town ambulance incident, investigation was still ongoing.

He also said that the attack was not election related as he debunked reports that there were allegedly money and sample ballots inside the ambulance which were intended allegedly for buying votes.

“Base po doon sa aming mga investigations, wala po naman kaming nakita,” said Abrugena.

(Based on our investigation, there was nothing to support that allegation. We did not see anything to back that claim.)

He also said that they would not make any adjustment on the election watchlist area status of the town despite a number of incidents speculated to be allegedly election-related.

These included the ambush of the ambulance May 6 at past 10 p.m. in Naga City.

“Based sa mga investigations conducted, it cannot be connected sa election related incident,” said Abrugena./dbs
