Armed men ‘ransack’ Apas barangay hall, hurt employees
CEBU CITY, Philippines – At least 12 armed men allegedly “ransacked” the Apas barangay hall in Cebu City at around 3 p.m. today, took eight cellular phones owned by its employees and “hurt” some of the barangay personnel.
Mayor Tomas Osmeña said that the suspects, who left on board a white van, also destroyed the barangay’s closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
“CCTV destroyed. Technicians will recover whatever recording they can,” said Osmeña said in a Facebook post past 4 p.m. today, May 13.
The mayor received news on the alleged attack on the Apas barangay hall while he was casting his vote at the Guadalupe Elementary School.
Apas barangay captain Virgilio Cabigon is an ally of Osmeña’s Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK).
Barangay employees said that the suspects carried long firearms and had their faces covered with cloth.
Personnel from the Criminal Intelligence Branch (CIB) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has arrived at the barangay hall to investigate the incident. /dcb
