CEBU CITY, Philippines—With his rival still leading the race, incumbent Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña posted a message in his Facebook page early Tuesday, May 14, 2019, asking people not to feel sorry for him.

“I do not want a single person to feel sorry for me,” Osmeña said to start his post.

In the most recent partial and unofficial result, incumbent Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella leads by at least 17,000 votes  in the mayoral race against Osmeña of the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK).

In the vice mayoral race, Michael “Mike” Rama leads by 27,000 votes against BO-PK’s Mary Ann delos Santos.

Labella and Rama are both under Partido Barug-PDP Laban.

In the post, Osmeña also thanked all his supporters for their “hardwork” during the campaign.

He said he will remain to be available to the Cebuanos and that his cellphone number can still be reached by whoever needs him.

“The future always brings challenges, but remember that Cebu still has a tomorrow. Our future in the SRP is still there. I can only hope that it will not be squandered once again,” said Osmeña.

The incumbent mayor ended this message to the Cebuanos with “Yours, Tommy,” taking out the “mayor” from his name.

“Take care of yourselves, take care of Cebu, and take care of each other,” he said

Meanwhile, no proclamations have been made yet for the local elections in Cebu City because of a malfunctioning SD card and a pending request to the national Comelec office to lower the vote threshold.

Lawyer Chaunsey Boholst, chairman of the Board of Canvasser and election officer of the North District, said that there are two ways that the proclamation may be done soon.

First is if the broken SD card from Barangay Labangon be repaired by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), which is already repairing at least 4,000 SD cards all over the country.  Second is if the national Commission on Elections (Comelec) approves the request to lower the vote threshold of the city.

The vote threshold is the number of votes transmitted needed to establish a winning candidate.

Boholst said that they are waiting for either of the options, then they will proclaim the new officials of the city. /bmjo
