THE Cebu City government wants to dispose its vehicles that are already unserviceable and classified as “beyond economic repair” through public auction
Jose Daluz III, head of the city’s bids and awards committee, placed newspaper advertisements on the auction of 26 vehicles and 11 motorcycles on March 25.
The auction will be held at the 7th floor of the city hall annex building at 3 p.m.
Engr. Dionisio Gualiza, head of the General Services Office, said there is an ongoing inventory of the 1,271 city-owned vehicles to determine which are still in good running condition, which ones need repair and which ones will have to be sold as junk.
Gualiza said that vehicles already advertised for auction can no longer be repaired and recommended for disposal by the Commission on Audit.
“Based on COA recommendation per kilo ang atong pagbaligya ana,” he said.
However, Gualiza said, GSO is still completing its inventory of vehicles that are seven years old and beyond. COA recommends the disposal of vehicles aged more than seven years.
“But based on our evaluation not all seven-year-old vehicles are already for disposal,” he said.
Gualiza said there are vehicles that may be more than seven years old but remain in good running condition because of proper maintenance.
Engr. Rene Plarizan, head of the city’s vehicle inspection division, said that barangay San Nicolas, for example, returned six vehicles including a dump truck to the city because these vehicles were no longer functional.
After evaluation, two are found useful if repaired. Gualiza said they assess vehicles based on its purchase value. Vehicles that will require a repair cost of half of its value will have to be disposed as junk.
