Don’t work on road repairs in national roads all at the same time, Mandaue city officials pleaded to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
With repair going on in five major thoroughfares, traffic in the city has become a real headache.
Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede said the City Council plans to pass a resolution asking the DPWH to do the work in phases to spare motorists, whose complaints have been mounting.
Simultaneous road work is being done in AS Fortuna Street, Hernan Cortes Street, M.L. Quezon Street, Ouano Avenue and Plaridel Street, slowing down travel time around the city and heading to Cebu City and to northern towns.
Councilor Jimmy Lumapas, chairman on the committee of roads and infrastructure, said he would consult Mayor Jonas Cortes about this.
Cortes last month welcomed DPWH’s effort to roll out a P221 million worth of road projects.

DPWH 6th district Assistant District Engineer Renault Ricardo said the projects had to be implemented simultaneously so these can be completed before the start of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) Summit next year. Some of the summit meetings will be held in Metro Cebu.
Traffic in Mandaue is expected to worsen in the next few weeks as activities unfold in the runum to Mandaue’s annual fiesta celebration on May 8.
Mayor Cortes, in a press conference last Friday, appealed to the public to bear with the inconvenience.
