CEBU CITY, Philippines – NJEB Construction took a step closer towards winning the championship in the 2019 Duterte Basketball League after they slipped past the ARQ Builders, 68-65, in Game 1 of the best-of-three finals on Sunday night, August 11, 2019, at the Capitol Parish Gym.

Romar Gonzaga proved to be too much of a headache for the Builders to handle as he scored 19 points to lead NJEB to within a win away from hoisting the trophy. Warren Cañete backed Gonzaga up with an all-around performance of 14 points, seven rebounds, three assists and a steal.

The loss laid to waste the huge offensive outburst of ARQ’s Christopher Obeso, who had 34 points and seven boards. Jarred Macasabog added 10 points for the Builders.

Game Two is set for next Sunday, August 18, at the same venue. /dcb
