CEBU CITY, Philippines — Primitivo Amaque stabbed a fellow butcher while they argued inside the public market in Barangay Poblacion Ward 1 in Minglanilla town at around 7:30 a.m. today, August 24.

But he did not even attempt to escape after the incident.

Amaque, 34, sat beside the body of Deonard Laurito, 36, while he waited for authorities and medics to arrive.

Police Master Sergeant Junyl Ater of the  Minglanilla Police Station said that Amaque did not resist arrest. He was also quick to admit that he stabbed Laurito when asked by the police.

Amaque is from Barangay Poblacion Ward 1 while Laurito is from Barangay Calajoan both located in Minglanilla town in southern Cebu.

“Personal grudge ni ilaha. Mga old grudge nga sauna pa,” Ater told CDN Digital.

(They had a personal grudge.  This grudge started years back.)

Ater said that Amaque did not regret stabbing Laurito, who died at around 10 a.m. on Saturday while undergoing treatment at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.

The suspect told Minglanilla police that he has long wanted to kill Laurito because of the latter’s constant threats.  There was also an incident which happened a few years ago when Laurito punched him.

Ater said that Amaque and Laurito were engaged in a heated argument prior to the stabbing incident.

Amaque, he said, pulled a 13-inch knife and stabbed Laurito hitting him in the stomach.

The suspect, Ater said, is now detained at the Minglanilla Police Station detention cell while they prepare a complaint for homicide that will be filed against him. / dcb
