Talisay teacher leads protest against Cañete before 2nd graduation rites

A rally against Dr. Paulus Cañete is held at the Talisay City Hall a few hours before Talisay City College graduation.

HOURS before the Talisay City College (TCC) held its second graduation ceremony, this time led by Dr. Paulus Mariae Cañete, a rally was held at the back of Talisay City Hall.

Elmer Montejo, a teacher, led protesters in urging Mayor Johnny V. de los Reyes and Cañete to stop sowing confusion.

They said the second graduation ceremony is illegal, insisting that the first one led by Richel Bacaltos was the legitimate one.

They hoisted banners that read “Oust Cañete” and “Cañete step down”.

Montejo said four teachers who took the side of Bacaltos have not received their salaries. Tension ensued when Elbert Tan, a member of a team that blocked the protesters, became upset when demonstrators took down his name. Only three students did not show up in the first graduation.

In the second ceremony, 411 of the over 700 graduates attended.

De los Reyes urged protesters to respect their ceremony, as he respected and did not disturb the first one.
