Where are the trees?

Fire trees along the S. Osmeña road where the public works department implements a concreting project  have all disappeared.

Neither the WT Construction, the contractor, nor the Department of Public Works and Highways could say who ordered the cutting of a total of 88 trees along that stretch.

Cebu City Councilor Nida Cabrera delivered a privilege speech in this morning’s regular session to raise this issue.

She pointed out an earlier agreement for the trees to be earthballed and transferred to the Plaza Independencia and the Senior Citizens’ Park across Cebu City Hall.

Cabrera urged the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) to investigate.

Public works officials and the contractor are asked to appear in the City Council’s special session on April 14 to answer questions.
