MANDAUE City Hall has prepared the Barangay Banilad gymnasium as a temporary shelter for evacuees from Tacloban City who are scheduled to arrive today.

Violeta Cavada, Mandaue City Hall’s Social Welfare and Services (CSWS) chief, said the evacuees will undergo stress debriefing conducted by social workers and day care teachers. They will also be given relief goods.

One side of the gymnasium will be partitioned off with plastic sheets to prevent rain from coming in while portable toilets will be installed for evacuees.

More than 30 families in Tacloban City were accommodated by their employer EC Calderon Construction and Development Corp. and housed temporarily in the compound of sister company EC Gas Philippines in barangay Opao, Mandaue City.

EC Gas Philippines is in-charge of the construction and maintenance of an oil depot, company supervisor Alex Baco said.

Mandaue City Hall Information Officer Roger Paler told Cebu Daily News that seven families from Tacloban City initially arrived in Mandaue City last Friday.

Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes urged his constituents to donate in cash and kind to the evacuees from Tacloban City.
