ENCOURAGED by the “economic boom” in the region, a Chinese mobile phone manufacturer entered the Cebu market, which the firm envisioned to be the hub for the Visayas and Mindanao markets.

Gionee Communications Equipment Ltd. Co recently launched their products in Cebu starting off with their flagship smartphone model Elife 7.

In an interview last week, Gionee Philippines mobile head Katrin Salanga-Gregorio said they have seen the big potential for their products to compete well in the country and get a fair size of the fast growing market for smartphones and feature phones here.

“The Philippines is considered the ‘texting capital’ in the world and recently ranked highest among the countries that takes a lot of ‘selfies’. We are banking on these trends in marketing our phones.

The Elife 7 for itself is built to take the best photos using a mobile device which Filipinos would really love,” said Gregorio.

Gionee started offering mobile phones in 2002 and are now being marketed and distributed in at least 40 countries around the world with India, known also as “technology capital” in the world as its strongest market outside of China.
