This year’s Kadaugan Sa Mactan celebration on April 25 to 27 will be a “family-friendly” affair, Lapu-Lapu City officials and organizers said yesterday.

Councilor Harry Radaza said the Kadaugan Street Party will use both lanes of the M.L. Quezon Highway in anticipation of a bigger crowd this year.

Last year’s festivities drew 400,000 attendees, he said. “We will have a street party that everyone can enjoy,” Radaza said.

Nicole Balao, project chief of a new event called the Kahayag Parade, said they also aim to keep their event that way.

“We want this to be a family event,” she said.

The parade will feature eight contingents with floats, cosplay displays and higantes with lighting effects.

Bottles and pointed barbecue sticks are prohibited in the venue to prevent untoward incidents.

Vendors who violate this prohibition will be apprehended by security teams and their food stalls will be shut down, he said.

Another highlight is the Rampada, which features street dancing with 13 of Cebu’s top disc jockeys led by DJ Elmer Dado providing the music.

Mark Basa, events director of Island Sounds, said they will put up a stage and booths for the crowd.

The Reyna Bulakna beauty pageant will have each contestant performing a two-minute Rampada dance interpretation.

Bayan Business and 7 Core Communications Inc. said they will ensure Wi-Fi connection in the venue.
