Capitol workers in drinking spree may lose jobs

The five provincial government workers who were caught by Gov. Hilario Davide III in a drinking spree during office hours on Friday may be fired, said Cebu Provincial Administrator Mark Tolentino.

He said the employees who were from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), could be fired directly without further investigation by  the Capitol discipline committee.

Four were job-order wokers.  A fifth worker was a casual.

“These personnel are outsourced and  it was  the governor himself who found them committing the act. It’s  common sense that what they did was wrong,” said Tolentino who heads the Committee on Discipline and Investigation.

“For the casual and job order (employees),  we can choose not to renew at the end of their contracts,” he added.

The committee will meet today on the  fate of the PDRRMO staffers and three other regular employees of the Provincial Health Office (PHO) who were also caught drinking by a Capitol security officer on the same day in a nearby beer house.

Tolentino said he is still verifying the names of the employees from the Capitol’s Human Resources (HR) Office.
