The Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority warned the public especially those using social networking sites to avoid package scams.

MCIAA General Manager, Engr. Nigel Paul Villarete said he received several complaints mostly from Manila who were victimized by these package scams.

Villarete said he received e-mails asking him why their package weren’t released yet when in fact, they already paid the customs duties to a certain account given by the courier.

Villarete replied that they might have been victims of scammers.

“They should have verified first if it was really the custom’s account, they can ask from our website first before depositing money to said accounts, as websites can be made within just a day,” he said.

Villarete said the links given to them by the scammers convinced the victims to invest their money to their accounts. Most victims were ladies from Luzon areas who were promised marriage and or befriended by a supposed foreigner who promised to meet them or send them a package.
