Beermen edge out Energy Colas

By: Calvin D. Cordova May 29,2014 - 09:47 AM

The San Miguel Beermen moved up to solo second place with a hard-earned 115-112 overtime win over the Barako Bull Energy Colas last night in the 39th PBA Governors’ Cup at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

Reggie Williams had another big scoring night, leading the Beermen’s third win in four games with 33 points and 13 rebounds.

Williams unloaded 13 of his total output in the fourth and overtime periods to help the Beermen survive the injuries suffered by June Mar Fajardo and Chris Ross late in the endgame.

Eric Wise tied Williams’ output but the Energy Colas still succumbed to a third straight loss to drop to 1-3 (win-loss).

The underdog Energy Colas engaged the Beermen in a toe-to-toe battle, coming back from a 94-100 deficit in the final 2:41 to tie the contest at 103.

Barako Bull even had the chance to win when Fajardo lost the ball inside the final 10 seconds of regulation. Jeric Fortuna, however, missed a jumper just before the buzzer sounded, sending the game to overtime.
