Expect rains over Central Visayas in the next two days

MOALBOAL, Cebu — Umbrellas up!

The low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility is expected to bring light to moderate rains over Central Visayas in the next two days, according to the weather bureau.

Romeo Aguirre, a weather specialist at the Mactan station of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said on Thursday, June 11, 2020, that as of 4 a.m., the LPA is now 50 kilometers east northeast of Virac, Catanduanes, or 245 kilometers north northwest of Borongan City, Eastern Samar.

“Atoa ani is uwan karun (Thursday) ug ugma (Friday) then improving ta og weather sa weekend though duna gihapoy thunderstorms kay rainy season man ta padung,” he said.

(We will have rain today and tomorrow and then we will have improving weather on the weekend although there will still be thunderstorms and because we are entering the rainy season.)

He also said that the LPA could be develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours.

“Kung mabagyo ni, atung pangan ani is “Butchoy.” Tropical Depression ni siya sa Luzon [and] possible mahimong Tropical Storm ig-abot niya sa West Philippine Sea nga area,” he added.

(If this will become a tropical, we will call it “Butchoy.” It will become Tropical Depression in Luzon and possible to become a Tropical Storm when it reaches the West Philippine Sea area.)

Aguirre said that the LPA’s trough, or its extension, would cause cloudy weather and will being scattered rains over Central Visayas.

But the winds still remains in slight to moderate, according to Aguirre.

“Next week, normal na atung panahon kanang init buntag udto and adunay thunderstorms sa afternoon,” he said.

(Next week, our weather will be normal. We will experience hot weather in the morning with [localized] thunderstorms in the afternoon.) /bmjo
