Jealousy leads to killing spree

By: Norman V. Mendoza June 05,2014 - 04:09 AM

Jealousy drove a 28-year-old habal-habal driver to kill his live-in partner and his elder brother in barangay Pagsabungan, Mandaue City early yesterday morning.

Police said Flint Toling suspected that his live-in partner, Ashela Antipuesta, 31 and his 35-year-old brother, Jason were having an affair.

Police arrested the suspect who allegedly owned up the crime.

Jason was separated from his wife and has three children. Flint and Ashela’s two children died for being born premature.

He said he confronted his partner, who was a call center agent, after he read text messages in her cellphone that says “buntis ko” (I’m pregnant) and “ipakuha” (Have it aborted).

Flint said though his brother’s name was not listed in the cellphone, he had long suspected that they were carrying out an affair as he often sees him talking to his wife.

Flint said he bought a pregnancy test kit for his partner, but she allegedly refused to show him the test results.

“Nagduda ko na naa syay gitagoan (I suspected that she was hiding something,” said Flint.
Police quoting the suspect said he shot his partner as she emerged from the bathroom of their boarding house. He then repeatedly stabbed her with a knife.

The suspect then went to the house of an unidentified sibling where his brother, Jason, also lived.
He immediately shot his brother in the chest.

Senior Insp. Genilo Veraque, chief of the Basak Police Station, said the suspect was still holding a gun when the police arrived.

Flint initially refused to surrender, but later relented upon seeing he had nowhere to run.
Police seized an A snub-nosed .22 cal. revolver with three spent shells in its cylinder.
