Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama ordered the closure of the Sapangdaku Elementary School due to frequent flooding in the area.

The school is located along the Sapangdaku river in a mountain barangay (village).

Classes for more than 500 students will be held at the Sapangdaku barangay hall. He The Cebu City government will provide tents in the barangay sports complex to accommodate the other students.

Rama said the three meter easement zone from the river should be enforced which meant the school will be closed and relocted someplace else.

Classes are suspended until the barangay hall and sports complex are prepared for the students. Cebu City Schools Supt. Mar Angtud said the parents can trnsfer their children to other schools. Classes will still continue at nearby Busay Elementary School but the local school board and Engr. Ricky Dakay will inspect the school building.
