Civic – military parade, anti-pork rally today

Today’s Independence Day in Metro Cebu will be celebrated with parades, flag honors , a fun run, Mass and flower offerings organized by various local government units.

Citizens lobbying against the pork barrel will also hold an inter-faith prayer rally at 2:30 p.m. at Fuente Osmeña.

Traffic in Cebu City will be rerouted starting 12 noon for a 2 p.m. civil-military parade.

Roads will be closed along MJ Cuenco Avenue to Sanciangko Street; right side of the Osmeña Boulevard to Arellano Boulevard; MJ Cuenco Avenue from MC Briones to R. Palma Street, S. Osmeña Avenue (right side) from R. Palma Street to Legaspi Extension.

Earlier at 4 a.m., a “solidarity run, walk and roll” will start at Plaza Independencia ending at the Plaza Sugbo grounds in front of Cebu City Hall.

Three routes will have people running, walking and biking to Plaza Sugbo for a flag ceremony at 7 a.m. and Holy Mass celebrated by Msgr. Roberto Alesna.

After Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama speaks, a symbolic release of doves and butterflies will follow.

In Lapu-Lapu, the city government will hold flag honors at the Mactan Air Base where a gun salute by the Philippine Air Force are part of activities.

Mandaue City will hold a 6:30 a.m. Mass at the National Shrine of Saint Joseph and a program at the Rizal-Bonifacio Monument at the public library.
