SMART strengthens network for disasters

SMART president and CEO Napoleon L. Nazareno

Smart fortifies network infrastructure and organization to be more disaster-resilient.  One of the key learning from Typhoon Yolanda was the importance of communications before, during and after disasters.  This is why Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is reinforcing its wireless network infrastructure and the organization’s business continuity plan to be able to withstand extreme situations amid the increasing vulnerability of the Philippines to disasters.

This was the focal point of the message of PLDT and Smart president and CEO Napoleon L. Nazareno during the ASEM Manila Conference on Disaster Risk and Reduction Management held in Manila recently as he talked about the role of telcos in disaster preparedness, management and response.

The ASEM Manila Conference was organized by the Asia-Europe Meeting, an informal process of dialogue and cooperating bringing together the 27 European Union member-states, 2 other European countries, the European Union with 20 Asian countries and the ASEAN Secretariat.  It addresses political, economic and cultural issues with the objective of strengthening the relationship between the two economic blocs. The conference was attended by the member-countries, including President Benigno Aquino III and members of his Cabinet, as well as members of the international humanitarian community.
