Metro Manila records coldest morning yet
MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila recorded its lowest temperature yet this monsoon season on Sunday, the weather service said.
In the Pagasa Science Garden in Quezon City, the temperature was recorded at 19.9 degrees Celsius at 6 a.m. on Sunday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the temperature drop was due to the strong and active northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan,” when the cool and dry northeast wind blows from Siberia and China to the Philippines.
Baguio City also recorded its coldest morning yet on Sunday, with mercury plunging to 9.4 degrees Celsius (See related story in Regions, Page A9).
The previously recorded lowest dip in the summer capital was at 10.4 degrees Celsius on Jan. 9.
Due to the persisting monsoon, rainy weather is expected in Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao regions on Monday.
Cagayan, Cordillera and Bicol regions, as well as the provinces of Aurora and Quezon, will also have cloudy skies with light rain, Pagasa said. INQ
