Police officer killed in Talisay City vehicular accident

CEBU CITY, Philippines –A police officer assigned to Carcar City perished in a vehicular accident in Barangay Linao in Talisay City, Cebu late Sunday night, January 31, 2021.

Police from Talisay City identified the victim as Police Staff Sergeant Niño Nito Bataluna Dahili, 40 years old and a resident of Taytayan in Bogo City in northern Cebu.

Jonathan Tumulak of the Talisay City Traffic Operations and Development Authority (TODA), in a phone interview, said that the victim was traversing the southbound lane of the national highway aboard his Honda Civic sedan when he lost control of his car.

According to Tumulak, witnesses told them that Dahili switched lanes but then crashed into the center traffic barrier. He then collided with a truck traversing the opposite northbound lane of the highway.

The truck was driven by 51-year-old Rolan Labandiro, a resident of Lower Kalunasan, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Dahili, who was an intelligence police officer assigned to the Carcar Police Station in southern Cebu, suffered injuries due to the impact of the collision and was rushed to the hospital. But was declared dead on arrival by doctors on duty.

Labandiro also sustained injuries and was brought to the Talisay City District Hospital accompanied by police personnel.
