LAPU-LAPU CITY, Philippines – Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has created a composite team that will monitor establishments, such as karaoke joints, bars, and restaurants to ensure that health protocols are being followed.

Health and safety protocols include the 50 percent venue capacity and the serving of only two bottles of beer.

Chan said that they are monitoring these establishments since they gather a crowd that posts a risk to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) transmission.

The composite team is composed of personnel from the Licensing Office, City Treasurer’s Office, and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The mayor is strictly implementing the health and safety protocols after they observe an increase in their COVID-19 cases.

“Basta mosunod lang sila sa health standards, then dili sila masirad-an. They can continue to operate,” Chan said.

Chan will also request the PNP to deploy a policeman in these establishments and has also asked the help of barangay captains to help in monitoring such establishments.

This morning, February 2, 2021, the City Legal Office and City Administrator’s Office has met with the barangay captains to discuss the roles that they will play in the operation.

Lawyer James Sayson from the City Legal Office, also revealed that last week, they’ve closed a bar in Barangay Gun-ob for violating the health protocol.

He said that the said bar held a party last Sinulog, wherein the social distancing protocol was no longer observed./rcg
