CEBU CITY, Philippines—The state weather bureau has lifted all storm signals in Cebu on Monday, February 22, 2021.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its 11 a.m. severe weather bulletin in relation to Tropical Depression Auring, still placed Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, and Biliran under Tropical Cyclone Wing Signal (TCWS) No. 1.

Other areas in Luzon such as Sorsogon, Masbate (including Ticao and Burias Islands, Albay, Catanduanes, and the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Caramoan, Presentacion, Sagnay, Buhi, Iriga City, Nabua, Bato, Balatan) also remained under TCWS No. 1

Auring has made landfall over Batag Island, Laoang, Northern Samar at 9 a.m. on Monday.

Pagasa reported that the Tropical Depression will likely further weaken into a low-pressure area (LPA) in the next few hours.

“The disturbance is forecasted to weaken considerably due to significant terrain interaction leading to deterioration into a remnant low within 24 hours or possibly sooner,” they said.

With Auring loosing its intensity, the Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has also downgraded its alert status from red to blue on Monday morning.
