Vosotros, Ty top CEPCA weekend online chess tourney

CEBU CITY, Philippines—Edelyn Vosotros and Jimmy Ty ruled the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) Weekend Chess Online Tournament last Sunday, February 21, 2021. 

Vosotros and Ty emerged champions in this virtual chess tournament that featured 56 woodpushers. Vosotros topped the Prexy Jerry Blitz Arena while Ty ruled the All-CEPCAN’s Arena.

Vosotros put on a dominating performance in the Prexy Jerry Blitz Arena as the 14-year University of Cebu (UC) Webmaster tallied 42 points in 14 games with an 86 percent winning percentage. 

Engr. Eladio Lim III and CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas were tied with 28 points, but the former was declared second place for having a higher winning percentage. 

Lim III had an 83 percent winning clip to snatch the runner-up spot, while Maratas had a 64 percent mark to settle for third place. 

Meanwhile, Ty dominated the All-CEPCAN’s Arena with 33 points from 14 games with a 71 percent winning percentage. A 

total of 32 woodpushers competed in the category. 

National Master (NM) Jasper Rom came in second with 30 points, while Norman Jasper Montejo rounded off the top three with 27 points. 

The winning woodpushers  received cash prizes from the organizers.
